FDMC Mentorship Program

FDMC’s Pilot Mentorship Program offers FDMC members who may need case or practice guidance access to experienced members for mentoring and advice. This voluntary and informal program serves like a “phone a friend” or email support line.

FDMC’s inaugural session of our Mentorship Program was well received and is coming to its 6-month conclusion.

We are seeking applications for Mentees our second session, to commence on November 1, 2019.  If you applied as a Mentor for the first session, and were not paired, there is no need to re-apply.  Please just indicate by return email that you are still interested.  As we reported, for the first session we had three times the number of volunteers to be Mentors as there were applications for Mentees – heartwarming evidence of the generosity of our membership!

Expectations and Guidelines:

1. This is a free benefit to our members.

2. The FDMC Mentorship Committee, a subcommittee of the Membership Committee, will match Mentees and Mentors and handle all inquiries.

3. Each pairing will be for a 6-month period, but may be extended by mutual agreement.

4. Each month, the Mentor and Mentee will have a one-hour phone meeting to discuss issues of interest or concern to the Mentee. The pair mutually may schedule additional time to communicate as schedules allow.

5. All Mentors and Mentees will be invited to meet for group discussion and camaraderie from time to time.

6. This is not a formal training program or apprenticeship; nor is there an expectation of co-mediation opportunities. Rather, this program hopes to provide informal case consultation and advice on business practices.

The FDMC is at heart an education and support organization, and we have confidence that this program will further our mission of educating and supporting our next generation of family and divorce mediators.

If you are interested in joining as a Mentee, please fill out the Mentorship Application by October 18, 2019.* We will try to match as many applicants as possible, and will announce the pairings on November 1, 2019.  This session will go from November 1, 2019 to May 1, 2020.
