The Continuing Education Committee is responsible for planning monthly educational seminars to our members and other professionals. Continuing education seminars are in diverse areas, such as the mediation process, legal issues, ethical issues, emotional dynamics in mediation, and financial issues.
The Governmental Affairs Committee is responsible for reaching out to the courts and the legislature to advance the goals of mediation. This committee is also responsible for contacting and coordinating efforts with other ADR organizations and for promoting mediation in the courts.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying and recommending members of the Family and Divorce Council of Greater New York to serve on our Board. Because Board terms are staggered and expire at different times, new nominees and Board members are needed each year.
The Outreach Committee is responsible for spreading the word about Mediation to professionals and the general public through networking and formal presentations via a Speaker’s Bureau.
The Professional Development Committee is dedicated to working creatively to enhance the practice of the professionals at FDMC. Current interests and projects include sliding scale mediation, mentorship, peer groups and accreditation.
The Public Relations Committee is responsible for developing and implementing a PR campaign to spread the message about the benefits of mediation in family disputes, and to promote FDMC as a professional organization that can be used as a resource for the media.
The Membership Committee helps to recruit and welcome new members. Our current tasks are developing a welcome packet for new members, developing member benefits, and providing guidance for new trainings.
The Website Committee is involved in updating and revamping the website in order to use it as a marketing tool and source of information for the Council and its members.

DIANE COHEN, Esq. (Immediate Past-President), is an attorney and mediator in private practice deeply involved in the mediation community since 1995. Diane is immediate past co-president of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York. She sits on many mediation panels, including the NYC Family Court Mediation Panel, the Westchester Matrimonial Mediation Panel, the Queens County Supreme Court Matrimonial Mediation Panel, and the U.S. Postal Service’s REDRESS Mediation Panel.

NICOLE FEUER, M.S., has been a divorce mediator in Manhattan for two years. She coordinated Mediation Peer Groups for the New York State Council for Divorce Mediation and was also on the committee for the New York State Council For Divorce Mediation’s Spring Conference for two years. Nicole is also a custody/visitation mediator for Cluster. Nicole hopes to bring more awareness to the public about mediation and all of the benefits it offers.
